Human-origin verification in unattended receive systems.

Partial abstract retained after the 2010 records normalization program.

Abstract

Unattended receivers can preserve the appearance of an active communications path long after the originating terminal has ceased to answer. This paper defines a human-origin challenge procedure for retained relay systems and documents failure cases observed in early K-Series field deployments.

Operators are instructed not to treat carrier presence, handshake completion, or returned machine traffic as evidence of a human operator.
